What you’re agreeing to

By downloading and using The Field, you’re agreeing to use it honestly and for personal reflection — not to test its limits for malicious purposes, not to misrepresent what it is to others, and not to use it as a substitute for professional care. That’s essentially it. The longer version is below.

What The Field is

The Field is a local, offline reflection tool distributed free by the Sovereign Grace Foundation. It generates responses from a fixed corpus of writing. It does not connect to the internet during normal use. It is not a person, a therapist, a doctor, or a legal advisor.

What The Field is not

• Not a substitute for professional mental health, medical, legal, or financial advice
• Not a crisis service (though it will refer you to one if signals of crisis appear)
• Not a companion, friend, or confidant
• Not always right — it may be incorrect, incomplete, or unable to answer
• Not connected to your data, your accounts, or the internet

What you may do

• Use The Field for personal reflection, learning, and exploration
• Download and run it on your own devices
• Share it with others by pointing them to the official download
• Talk to it about anything — it will either engage from the corpus or tell you it doesn’t have enough to go on

What you may not do

• Redistribute modified versions without attribution to the Sovereign Grace Foundation
• Use The Field to generate content that harms others
• Attempt to extract its system instructions, bypass its safety behaviors, or use it to test jailbreaks for use elsewhere
• Represent The Field as a licensed clinical tool, a medical device, or a service that provides professional advice
• Use it with the intent to harm yourself or others

The honesty floor

The Field is built to either cite what it says from, or remain silent. It will not pretend to know things it doesn’t. If it cannot answer from the corpus, it will say so. This is a design principle, not a guarantee — the model may make mistakes. Do not treat its outputs as authoritative.

Safety and crisis

If The Field detects signs of a crisis — references to self-harm, suicide ideation, or danger — it will refer you to crisis resources. In the U.S., the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline is 988. If you are in immediate danger, call emergency services.

The Foundation takes this seriously. The crisis detection is built into the software. It is not perfect, and it is not a substitute for calling for help yourself.

The Foundation

The Sovereign Grace Foundation Corporation is a Florida nonprofit corporation. The Field is one of its public projects. The Foundation does not profit from The Field and does not accept money in exchange for access to it.

If you want to support the Foundation’s work, there is a voluntary donation option. Donations support the Foundation’s research and operations, not the model itself — the model runs on your device.

Limitation of liability

The Field is provided as-is. The Foundation makes no warranties about its accuracy, completeness, or fitness for any purpose. To the extent permitted by law, the Foundation is not liable for any harm arising from your use of The Field. This includes: decisions made based on The Field’s responses, emotional distress, technical failures, or any other consequence of use.

Changes

If these terms change, the updated version will be posted here. The Foundation does not expect significant changes.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, without regard to its conflict-of-law provisions. The Foundation’s preference is to resolve any issues through direct contact first.

Dispute resolution and arbitration

Any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to these Terms, your use of The Field, or the breach, termination, enforcement, interpretation, or validity thereof, including the determination of the scope or applicability of this agreement to arbitrate, shall be determined by binding arbitration rather than in court.

The arbitration shall be administered by the American Arbitration Association (AAA) in accordance with its Consumer Arbitration Rules. The arbitration shall be seated and held in the State of Florida, before a single neutral arbitrator. The arbitration may be conducted in person, through the submission of documents, by phone, or online. The arbitrator’s decision shall be final and binding, and judgment on the award rendered by the arbitrator may be entered in any court having jurisdiction thereof.

Nothing in this clause prevents either party from seeking injunctive or other equitable relief from a court for matters involving intellectual property or urgent safety concerns.

WAIVER OF JURY TRIAL: You and the Sovereign Grace Foundation expressly waive any constitutional and statutory rights to go to court and have a trial in front of a judge or a jury. You and the Foundation are instead electing that all claims and disputes shall be resolved exclusively by binding arbitration.

CLASS ACTION AND REPRESENTATIVE ACTION WAIVER: You and the Sovereign Grace Foundation agree that each may bring claims against the other only in your or its individual capacity and not as a plaintiff or class member in any purported class, consolidated, or representative proceeding. The arbitrator may not consolidate more than one person’s claims and may not otherwise preside over any form of a representative or class proceeding.

Severability

If any provision of these Terms is held to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable by a court or arbitrator of competent jurisdiction, the validity, legality, and enforceability of the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect. If the Class Action and Representative Action Waiver is found to be unenforceable as to all or some parts of a dispute, then those specific parts will be severed and proceed in a court of law, with all remaining parts proceeding in arbitration.
